Turnover intention is a continuous issue which has effected organizations until today. Many organizations have tried to understand the factors that could contribute to turnover intention among employees. Although many research have been conducted to study the turnover intention based on variables such as job satisfaction and organizational commitment, the research conducted may not be relevant due to lapse of time.Contemporary studies need to be conducted in order to understand the perception of the new generation of employees particularly among generation Y. New studies need to be conducted in order to understand the new way of thinking among employees especially the new generation and what are the dominant factors that could effect the turnover intention among these employees. Based on previous research, this study is conducted among generation Y employees, majority of employees today (year 2012) consist of generation Y which is age from 19 to 35.This study also trying to understand the mediation effect of organizational commitment on the relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intention among these generation so that the study could give more inputs in terms of how organizational commitment could be important in terms of the effect on turnover intention. Data was analyzed using "Statistical Package for Social Science" (SPSS) version 15 and a total of 242 respondents was selected using random sampling technique in order to understand the relationship between job satisfaction and turnover intention and how organizational commitment mediates the relationship between the two variables. Both descriptive and the inferential analysis employed in this study. The results of the analysis found the relationship of job satisfaction and turnover intention generally support the hypothesis as well as the mediation effect of organizational commitment on the relationship of these two variables. There are also additional findings whereby work itself is the dominant factor in job satisfaction compared to the other job satisfaction dimension namely pay, promotion and supervision. Some suggestions has been recommended for practitioners and future research to be more complete and comprehensiv

COVID-19 has been a catastrophic event for humans as it has infected millions of humans. Due to this, healthcare workers and general public has highly advised the use of Filtering Facepiece Protectors (FFRs) for daily activities. However due to scale of breakout, FFRs are becoming short and insufficient to cope with demand. This experiment aims to evaluate performance of FFRs by characterization of penetration and filter resistance and to determine the effect of decontamination performance to FFRs macrostructure and microstructure. A total of 36 labelled FFRs N95 and KN95 were exposed to four decontamination methods like bleach, vaporized hydrogen peroxide, autoclave, and moisture heat with two N95 and two KN95 FFR as control samples. A filtration performance and airflow resistance test were performed on each of decontaminated FFR. Then, FFR were observed for physical change and significant degradation on its appearance. Next, FFR were taken for microstructure test which was done under Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) to observe its morphology property. Based on the normalised data of filter penetration and airflow resistance, VHP was the best decontamination method as decontaminated FFR show good performance with least deviation data. As for macrostructure test, Moisture Heat was the only decontamination method which showed no degradation on FFR. As for microstructure test, Bleach decontaminated FFR illustrated the highest fiber breakage and shrinkage occurred on its fiber structure

    Get PDF
Simultaneous action of surfactant modified sugarcane bagasse (SBH) for dye adsorption and antibacterial activity were investigated. SBH was subjected for adsorption of cationic dye, methylene blue (MB) and anionic dye, methyl orange (MO). Antibacterial activity of SBH was tested against gram negative bacterium (Escherichia coli ATCC11229) and gram positive bacteria (Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC6538). SBH was prepared by reacting sugarcane bagasse (SB) with different concentrations of cationic surfactant, hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide HDTMA-Br) (0.1, 1.0 and 4.0 mM). The adsorbed amount of HDTMA-Br onto SBH was determined after modification process. SB and SBH were structurally characterized by FTIR spectroscopy. Results from simultaneous action study demonstrated that SB showed adsorption affinity towards MB and MO while the antibacterial activity of SB increased after the surfactant modification reaction. SB modified with 4.0 mM of HDTMA-Br (SBH4.0) exhibited the highest adsorption capacity and antibacterial activity. SBH demonstrated excellent antibacterial activity against gram negative in comparison to gram positive bacteria. In conclusion, the modification of SB with high concentration of HDTMA-Br enhanced the simultaneous action of cationic and anionic dye adsorption and the antibacterial activity against gram negative bacteria

The stability of diaphragm wall for deep excavation

    Get PDF
Rapid urbanisation and the increase in population has led to massive use of underground spaces, especially in the city. Before an underground structure is built, the use of retaining structure is crucial in order to prevent the excavation from failure. Diaphragm wall is a widely used retaining structure, particularly for deep excavation. A holistic understanding of the performance and its behaviour is essential to provide stability of the soil retained. A parametric study by using Plaxis2D has been conducted to determine the factors affecting the stability of diaphragm wall and the excavation sites in underground Mass Rapid Transit station of Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKLX). The objectives of this study are to determine the effect of diaphragm wall stiffness, groundwater drawdown and the depth of wall for deep excavation. The stability is captured based on the lateral deflection of wall, bending moment, safety factor and ground movement near the diaphragm wall. From the study, it is found that the diaphragm wall with high stiffness can reduce wall deflection up to 20% with the addition of 49% bending moment and achieve a high factor of safety. Furthermore, groundwater drawdown is seen reducing lateral deflection of the wall up to 1.08% as well as increasing the factor of safety. Finally, decreasing wall depth reduces the wall deflection by 0.38% and also the basal heaving
